A lot of the work we undertake at Carbon involves talking to artists
about the frames they require for their work.
A good many artists will want little or no impact from the frame to
effect the look or feel of the artwork. We have in stock many simple
manufactured profiles to suit this requirement. However the artists
shown below have found that the effect of using reclaimed picture frames
is very suitable.
Greenhalf & Pollard photographers are featured here using the Patina range to great effect. Their wonderful robust photographs with elemental subject matter ideally suit the distressed timber surround. Price range: £75.00+.
These paintings of nightscapes by Denise Franklin are framed using reclaimed timber. An inner slip has been used to break the impact of the flat framed surface against the painting, giving contrast and depth. The effect of using such a large frame is that a small painting can become a central feature in a room (see Fairlight Furniture Project). The finishes on the reclaimed frames are from the Patina, Shingle Street and Boardwalk ranges to suit each image. Price range: £50.00+.
Well known and highly respected actress and artist Anna Calder Marshall has used reclaimed frames for several of her recent exhibitions, and has been very pleased with the results. To quote Anna, "I have never felt my pictures so favourably understood and enhanced, people always comment on how suitable they are for my work." Example sof Anna's work in our frames are taken from her latest exhibition on a Shakespearean theme. Anna used Boardwalk, Patina and Fire Island finishes. Price ranges: £45.00 to £60.00.
Carbon offers bespoke box framing for artists working in three dimensions.
Box frames are usually made from standard plain wood available in a range
of depths and profiles. We are also able to create boxes from reclaimed
timber to suit (see examples below).
